Junior Sailing on Friday 21st October 2016

This was an impromptu and unscheduled session held at Hobsonville Yacht Club, and lots of people turned up. It was a great adventure out on the water, with the added challenge negotiating launching at low tide. The slipway lived up to its name, but we didn't lose anyone, and only Aman ended up knee deep in mud, and he seemed to enjoy the experience.

The dinghies were rigged very quickly and Harrison, Mackenzie and Kieran went out solo to begin with. This gave the new sailors a chance to have a ride in the Safety boat before doubling up with the three soloists. Harrison teamed up with Eoghain, Mackenzie with Grace, and Kieran took Aman, who had never sailed before. Derek, Stanley and Sage then had a turn in the Safety Boat, under the careful eyes of Stuart Wills and Sean Munro.

While the children were busy sailing, Erica fired up the BBQ, and had hot dogs for everyone when they got off the water and had tidied the dinghies and gear into the shed. It was one of the best evenings on the water, with ideal wind strength and incoming tide. Many thanks to Stuart for running the safety Boat and Sean for taking on the role of Instructor, as well as Denise and Gary who both work tirelessly to enable it all to happen.

It is a busy weekend ahead, with Junior sailing at 5pm this Friday, the Golden Rivet Yacht Race on Saturday and the first of the dinghy races on Sunday, start at 9am. If you want to borrow a dinghy on Sunday, please contact me, Gary or Denise by Saturday at the latest. We can offer an Optimist, Starling, Sunburst or Firebug, cost $5 to loan.
