Junior Sailing Report Friday 14th October 2016

posted Oct 26, 2016, 6:11 PM by Admin hycnz

The weather was appalling at 4pm when I made the decision to stay off the water and have fun in the clubhouse instead! By 5pm the heavy rain had cleared, the wind had abated and the tide had eased, making my earlier decision look a little silly. However it gave me time to enjoy meeting the parents and children, and have time to talk and get to know them a little better. Welcome to a new junior,   Aman Devta,  joining and showing great keenness to learn how to sail. He quickly got to know the other junior sailors and learnt some knots and proceeded to help Mackenzie tie her brother, Harrison, up to the central pillar by the bar.

Thanks go to Gary Matthews who spent the better part of a day fixing all the minor technical problems with all the dinghies and launching trolleys. The fleet of Optimists, Sunbursts and other dinghies are all ready to get on the water. Thanks also to Bruce and Tim for getting out the Safety Boat and giving it a thorough clean out, after some incontinent birds had p*****d all over it! Not a pleasant job.

Thanks also to Erica Wills who came with lots of food supplies to fire up the BBQ for all the hungry junior sailors for when they got off the water. All now in her deep freeze and ready for next Friday.

We will get out on the water this coming Friday, and would be grateful for any help from any experienced dinghy sailors, as we are down an instructor for this weekend, as it is the Coastal Classic.
