Hello to Club Members/Dinghy/Junior/LTS Sailors/Parents, On Sunday 12 July 2020, the HYC resumed its sailing program with the Dinghy Winter Series. It was great to see 6x boats out on the water in reasonable weather for the first time since the lockdown restrictions were eased. Although the numbers were down, this was expected as it was the middle of the school holidays and a lot of families were away on holiday enjoying the sights and having fun our great country! We are looking forward to the next race day, post the school holidays, and we are hoping to see a larger fleet participating. Although there were only 6 boat sailing, the racing was competitive and fun. The weather was fine although a little colder than the last time we sailed, and Upper Harbour wind conditions were a typically tricky/shifty 5-15 knots. In the Opti’s Astin won both races, Ollie & Barnabus shared each race and Kieran/Sean won both races in the bigger Dinghies. Tamas took the prize for the best capsize of the day! He learnt how much the water temperature has changed since prior to the C19 lockdown! Thanks to all that assisted on the day to run the racing and a special thanks to all who assisted in getting the safety boats and racing equipment sorted post lock down; with a special thanks to Scott Trask. The next race day is Sun 26 Jul 2020; 9am sheds open, for an 11am start. We are really looking forward to seeing a bigger turn out. Let’s hope the weather is good.
