First up we would like to thank Denise and the Committee in accepting our late crew memberships to enable us to register our entry for the National regatta, your accommodation in doing so is greatly appreciated! And yes, our new crew are looking forward to coming to our club for a few rumbos. Saturday saw a day of shifty 12-18kn breeze that had us finish the day in a nice solid 8th online, with room to improve with favorable light winds forecast, for an older Baverstock rig for the Sunday to come. We had a minor incident at the top mark of the last race on Saturday which saw our windex become removed from our rig.. more on that over a few rummies at the club one day, this had us dock out VERY late Sunday as we attempted to fit a replacement with no avail. We were hammer down under main and engine to get out the the course for a 10am gun, fortunately the first race of Sunday (R7) became a general recall and were able to stack into the restart. A great start, or so we thought, saw us finish the race in 4th place only to discover that we were OCS under the U flag, bugger 45 mins of hard sailing to discover that our one discard for the regatta was to be discounted of an easy start line error. The rest of the day we sailed well with the new crew in what I believe to be New Zealand most competitive one design fleet, saw us finish the regatta 4th on Handicap and 8th online. As this was the Mindbenders first nationals both Ruth and I were very happy with the results, most races between first and last place was often little more than 3 minutes. We are honored to be flying the flag for Hobsonville for what is often a Westhaven dominated class. Thanks Brad and Ruth. Mindbender. |
