Race report from Eye Spy.
Great weather for sailing today. 15 to 20knts from the SE with a chance of an occasional shower. My crew and I are looking forward to it. We have JK, Mark and Denise on board.
We start with slightly cracked sheets and merge in behind Blue Beat. Not such a good start but soon manage to pass Blue Beat and find that we are hard on the wind and maybe having to throw a tack in to get round Kauri Point. We got a great lift from Island Bay enabling us to clear everything without tacking. Around Kauri and we look for the kite. Wait one……..the wind is still forward of the beam. We have a bit of a lead and see Satisfaction tussling with BlueBeat. He gets past and then charges after us. The heavier breeze suits the mighty Satisfaction and the girls were doing a great job trimming.
Waterwitch is also now in his element with his large gennaker pushing him closer to us as well. Satisfaction finally closed in our lead and started pushing us all over the harbour……big bully. He finds a way passed and we are on his transom as we round Torpedo Bay mark. Now off to Resolution buoy.  That’s an early tack Phil!? Seems Phil didn’t get the memo about Resolution Buoy eh……..
So pressure gone we charged up the harbour pointing as high as we could. We had to throw one tack in to get round Kauri point then cracked sheets for the run home. We left the kite down below. Maybe get to use it next time eh Denise?
Great sailing conditions and great result. First on line and handicap…….nice.
Thanks to the Eye Spy crew and the tower team.
Good to see Satisfaction, Waterwitch and BlueBeat out enjoying the sparkling Waitemata Harbour.
