Race Report from Blue Beat We had a great start with light wind then the wind got lighter, lunch time ok then I had a beer as well! Great party great people. I want more. Bring on Summer! (It must be mating season - as the Big Blue boat and the small Blue boat snuggled up together for the night) Race Report from Young Entertainer We had a sweet crew jacked up for racing on Sunday morning. The only issue we had is that I didn't show up on time... I spend the best part of Saturday night and Sunday morning helping Gary get Blue Beat back to West Park. I think it was his plan to get me wrecked so he could beat me in the race on Sunday... Bad man.... We had a sweet start and with plenty of encouragement from Sail Captain Peter we hit the line with what we thought would be a 'bottle of wine' winning time. We found out at prize giving that Phil and the Satisfied crew beat us to the line by 1 second! After the start we set about catching our rivals. Young Entertainer was rocketing along with the wind forward of the beam - perfect conditions for her! Blue Beat and Eye Spy had gone right out to the port side of the course to allow a better angle for their spinnakers. We made for Kauri Point and set the gennaker up and had a nice ride to the mark. We rounded and stayed out of the tide beating up to the next mark. We rounded and had another sweet gennie run down to Chelsea. We headed for home but didn't count our chickens.... our fate was in the hands of the Sailing Captain. So nice to hear Young Entertainers name called for first place! We finialy won the lollies! Well done Warren, Dunc and Blair! Race report from EYE SPY...... Eric and I on board the EYE SPY again. Other crew are out due to various injuries which don't seem to be healing as quick as one might expect. Something to do with age fellas? I shouldn't give them a hard time as on one race we had four on board with a total of around 230 years "experience", me included of course . Winds looked pretty light around the time we hoisted the mainsail so we chose the No.1 headsail as well. The start time was a little confused as calls from the tower were not consistent but hey.........at least there were calls and at least there was racing. We managed to get ahead of Satisfaction and Blue Beat by Kauri point in what was winds which were over powering the boat with the No.1. Oh well.....kite up so we decided on the smaller "chicken shute" as we were short handed. The hoist went well. It needed to as we had Blue Beat on our transom. We managed to ride over the top of Satisfaction, round his bow and expected him to shadow us. Phil allowed us to get clear which put us back in the battle with Blue Beat......thanks Phil. Blue Beat gave us a great run for our money and the position changed a number of times before we got some clearance on the last beat to windward. Where was Tairangi? He did a great job with his kite and there wasn't alot of speed difference down hill but he struggled up hill against the light "Young's". Speaking of "Young's". Congrats to Darcy and crew for a well deserved win. Young Entertainer passed all the opposition down wind with his beautiful gennaker. Maybe that should be used more often huh? Great day on the water had by all and another second place for EYE SPY. Race Report from Blue Beat |
