Race report from Eye Spy:

The weather gods were listening this weekend and Eye Spy headed down the harbour in light breezes and calm seas bound for Home Bay on Mototapu. The wind was moving to the North in the evening so I thought it would give us the best chance of shelter and heaps of room to anchor.

Eye Spy has Lisa on board for this Wayward. We arrive at Home Bay to find Arabesque, Resolute, Magic Dragon and BlueBeat followed us in not much later. We discussed the start-line for the following day and came up with a cleaver solution………well……….Lisa did. We would use the cable markers on the beach. When your promulgated start time comes up and you have the markers in line you can start. A calm night with a couple of drinks ensued.

Two boats started in Sundays race. Eye Spy on 18 minutes and BlueBeat on 22.

After listening to the “now casting” we chose the No.2 headsail and full main.  Turns out it was peaking at 26knts at Bean Rock. We drifted out of the bay with BlueBeat hot on our tail. Things started to get a little “brisk” around the entrance to Izzy Bay so I chucked in a reef. BlueBeat went by in the process but a decided we would be able to rectify that up the harbour. He managed to hold his advantage even with his full main. We were however very pleased we reefed as it would have been very uncomfortable without it. As it was…..we broke two slugs in the reefed main. Winds well over 30knts at times.

Fun getting Eye Spy back on the mooring still against the tide and wind.

I had a great time. Thanks to Lisa and thanks to BlueBeat who gave out what could be described as a bit of a “spanking”. Can’t win em all eh.
