Race report from Eye Spy: Tis the first Wednesday evening race for 2015 There’s a nice breeze which is fortunate as we need to get to Sharpies for a clean. The motor is dodgy so a sailing we went. It was interesting getting into the floating dock but at the end of the day…….job done. The crew……Gill and Mark. Picked up Marylins mooring on the way back from the clean and had enough time prior to the race to repair one halyard and replace another. Nice work. In 15 to 20knts of breeze we opted for the No.2 headsail. Good choice as it turned out coz we remained balanced throughout. These conditions favoured the boats with waterline length and sail area. We managed to pass Satisfaction only for them to retake the position later on. Waterwitch started behind us and charged through the fleet like a hot knife through junket. Eye Spy had the usual battle with Wild horses and ended up leading them at the finish by a couple of minutes. A good relaxed afternoon on the sparkling upper Waitemata Harbour. Pity there weren’t more HYC boats participating. The course was CCYCs favourite No.3. Rhona, Pile bouy, Rhona, finish. As we had already been down the harbour and back we made the decision to leave the kite tucked up in the bow of Eye Spy. The course resulted in a drag race in both directions. Broad reach down and cracked sheets back. We started mid fleet and passed more boats than passed us. I think we can be happy with the result and we now look forward to the night race to Kawau on Friday. Lee ho |
